Queens High School of Teaching (NY) standout Leiton Woods recently committed to Division II College of Staten Island.
Hailing from Queens, New York, Woods played a pivotal role in leading QHST to the PSAL “AA” playoffs during his senior season, where he boasted averages of 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game.
A dynamic athlete with a lightning-quick first step, Woods openly acknowledges that his journey to college basketball had its hurdles.
“My recruitment throughout high school was not the best,” admits the guard. Until April of his senior year, Woods hadn’t received any offers. It was then that the CSI coaching staff reached out to this local prospect.
For Woods, the deciding factor in his commitment was the genuine connection he felt with the CSI coaching staff and the program during his visit to the school.
Although Woods has pledged his commitment to CSI, he won't officially join the East Coast Conference team until the 2024-25 season. In the meantime, he's gearing up to represent Shots with Patience Prep (NY) this year under the guidance of Head Coach Andre Edwards.
“My goal for this season is to help win as many games as possible and continue to prepare to play at CSI,” said Woods. As he looks ahead to his first collegiate season, he adds, “I hope to make a winning impact on the team and aid in a championship run in my first year at CSI.”
A local prospect equipped with a versatile skill-set, Leiton Woods is poised to help the Dolphins elevate their game to the next level.
