Gotham Hoops was launched in 2009 to showcase basketball recruits throughout New York City
Founder Ray Anczelowicz (LIU Brooklyn '15) attended regularly scheduled prep, post grad and AAU events featuring local boy's high school basketball student-athletes. His evaluations were then dispersed to men's college basketball coaching staffs throughout the Northeast.
GothamHoops.com served as a platform of promotion for under-recruited prospects. Site content was built on custom player highlights and scouting reports. Developing an audience of NCAA recruiters helped us connect NYC's best kept secrets with college programs.
Our next step was to assist local men's college basketball seniors. The Gotham Hoops Invitational, our first-ever event, was initiated in April, 2014. It hosted 36 of the best graduating players from throughout the New York Metro Area. In four years, event alumni have gone onto sign pro contracts with teams in more than 50 leagues throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.
Since then, we have partnered with Maurice Harkless (NBA Player) to co-host his annual Skills Academy. Established in August, 2014, the week-long summer camp teaches boys and girls (grades 6 - 12) the fundamentals of basketball through proper sports training. Harkless, a former Big East Conference Rookie of the Year Winner for St. John's University, leads instruction with his team of experienced coaches.
Our next project was the Gotham Hoops Classic in January, 2018. This event featured 17 boy's prep and post graduate teams from across the United States and Ontario. The two-day showcase hosted more than 180 recruits throughout 12 games. Spectators included college coaches (NCAA Division I, II and III) as well as NBA scouts. The Classic is a local (NY Metro) event starring talent from around the world.
We host events and represent athletes in an effort to best-connect recruits and teams. Our mission is to discover sports up-and-comers.
