With the inaugural NBA 2K League season in full swing, a June 29th deadline has been set for the 13 remaining NBA teams to join in time for next year, per SportsBusinessDaily.com
The 76ers’ gaming team won the Tip-off tournament back in May, while Blazers Gaming emerged victorious in the mid-season tournament on June 9th. Playoffs are set to begin on August 17th.
Despite low viewership ratings, the 2K League’ has been able to attract notable sponsors such as State Farm- and its Managing Director, Brendan Donohue recently told SportsBusinessDaily that he believes it is “very realistic” that the League will eventually expand to include all 30 NBA teams.
Should this 13-team expansion manifest itself, it is more than reasonable to assume that the league’s popularity (and revenue) will increase drastically in the coming years.
