Coppin State Names Gaetano Assistant Coach

As first reported by HoopDirt.com, Phil Gaetano (Sacred Heart University '15) has been hired by Coppin State University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Gaetano spent the 2016-17 season in the NBA's Development League as part of the Maine Red Claws' (Boston Celtics affiliate) coaching staff. He joins newly minted head coach Juan Dixon in Baltimore, MD.

Gataeno is an upstart coach with Northeast ties. He competed for famed-AAU program Connecticut Basketball Club before committing to Sacred Heart University. Gaetano finished his NCAA career with 661 points, 730 assists and 109 rebounds before attending the 2nd Annual Gotham Hoops Invitational in May, 2015.

A pass-first point guard on the court, Gaetano's next quest was on the sidelines. He rejoined SHU for the 2015-16 campaign as a Graduate Assistant. With a year spent on the professional level sandwiched in the middle, Gaetano returns to the collegiate ranks where he looks to help jumpstart a Coppin State Eagles program.
