Barrett Joins Seward CC; Signs First Recruits

James Barrett is the newest member of the Seward County Community College coaching staff. The Brooklyn, N.Y. product returns to college basketball after making an impact on the grassroots scene.

Barrett has previously coached at famed Abraham Lincoln High School (NY) and with the New York Rens and New Heights AAU programs. In addition, Barrett initiated the Unsigned Hype Senior Games. His annual event provided an opportunity for local boy's high school seniors to compete before Junior College coaches.

Over the years Barrett has coached Isaiah Whitehead (Seton Hall/Brooklyn Nets) and Isaiah Cousins (Oklahoma/NBA G League), two NBA Draftees, as well as NCAA standouts Hamidou Diallo (Kentucky), Rawle Alkins (Arizona), Mustapha Heron (St. John's), Desi Rodriguez (Seton Hall), and Jordan Nwora (Louisville).

It hasn't taken long for Barrett to prove his wealth as a recruiter. Barrett, a former Division I student-athlete at Sam Houston State, has already secured talent for the Seward County program.

Five New York City-area prospects in Paul Person, Marco Morcency, Nayshon KaneJohn Green, and Qaiyoom Olanlege will suit up for Saints in Kansas next season.
