Andell Cumberbatch has signed a deal to join the Redwell Gunners Oberwart in Austria.
The Gunners are the defending champions in Austria's top league, A Bundesliga. Cumberbatch, a 6-foot-5 swingman, played in Cyprus and the Czech Republic in 2015-16 where he averaged 16.4 and 16.0 points per game, respectively.
A proven scorer and defensive stopper, Cumberbatch acknowledges his roles coming into the season. "Coach [Chris Chogauz] wants me to come in and play great defense and to score and rebound the ball," Cumberbatch told GothamHoops.com.
With expectations sky-high heading into next year, Cumberbatch also has his eyes set on the prize. "I want to help [the Gunners] win the championship again this year," he says. "Individually, I would like to use this experience to take my game to the next level."
An East Orange, N.J. product, Cumberbatch competed in the 2015 Gotham Hoops Invitational following his senior season. Cumberbatch has two years of professional basketball under his belt since graduating from St. Bonaventure in 2015.
