Dewayne Dedmon has Breakout Potential

Free-agent Dewayne Dedmon has found a home. Dedmon signed a 2 year deal worth $5.9 million with the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.

The California product and former USC standout is a journeyman in his own right. Dedmon joined the Orlando Magic full-time in 2015 after a series of 10-day contracts and D-League assignments since going undrafted in 2013.

A versatile 7-footer with an impressive motor, Dedmon started 20 games for the Magic this past season. Dedmon's top performance of the year came in late March where the 26-year old posted 18 points and 13 rebounds in 22 minutes during a win versus Chicago.

The Spurs, an organization known for developing talent, will greatly utilize Dedmon's terrific combination of size and skill. Playing alongside such talented big men in LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol will rapidly enhance Dedmon's game. Additionally, the one-time Junior College prospect will have opportunities to compete immediately.

With future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan's plans in question, Dedmon's number may be called sooner than later come next season. Nonetheless, this pairing between Dewayne Dedmon and the San Antonio Spurs is a match made in heaven. One that may even end with a championship come next June.
